Pharr, Texas: On January 20th, 2022, a local farmer found Gabriel Quintanilla, 43, dead in a nearby field.

In Texas, two brothers were arrested for beating their stepfather to death after he allegedly sexually abused their nine and half-year-old sister. A local farmer found his body in a field. A friend of the brothers was arrested as well for playing an alleged role in the crime. Currently, all three are held in the Hidalgo County Jail and ICE detainers have been placed on both brothers. The Treviño brothers are not legally present to live in the United States.

The eldest brother, Alejandro Trevino, aged 18, has received charges related to aggravated assault and participating in criminal activity. Both, Christian Trevino, 17, and Juan Eduardo Melendez, 18, face charges for capital murder and aggravated assault. According to police, Quintanilla was accused of sexual assault by his nine-year-old daughter on Jan. 20. When the brothers learned about their stepfather’s alleged actions, it led to the brothers confronting him, and then a fight ensued. The incident began in the Pharr Trailer Park and carried on to an apartment complex further down the road. A third attack happened before Gabriel Quintanilla was ultimately left at Mccoll and Whalen Road, in a field, where he was later found dead.

As the story unraveled, reporters learned that Gabriel was accused of sexual assault & violence against the family in separate incidents. The previous reports go back to 2014 and 2016, but the police could not locate Quintanilla. A large amount of support poured in for the teens. A petition was launched to free the teens. That petition has gained over 400k signatures.
