A bus driver is being haled a hero by parents & staff for acting swiftly in a “worse fear” type scenario. On February 4th, 2022, the Orland Park Police Department posted this photo to their official Facebook page. “…an accident involving a stalled, unoccupied school bus and a train occurred in the vicinity of 10900 and 167th Street in Orland Park.”

It’s a very scary situation for anyone. It could’ve been far worse

St. Michael School Principal Paul Smith

The incident happened around 2:30 p.m. on Friday, February 4th, on 167th Street. According to police reports, there were 5 students occupying the bus when the bus driver routinely stopped at the tracks. When the driver tried to go, the bus stalled on the train tracks minutes before a scheduled oncoming train was headed toward them.

The bus driver calmly removed the children from the vehicle before the bus was ultimately hit by the Chicago bound train. Thankfully there were no injuries.
